La noche fue lo de siempre: la interminable sinfonía de aullidos del alma, recordando el momento en donde la esperanza se me convirtió en llameante dolor... descubierto, de rodillas, yerto frente a la gris estampa del Barquero. Sudando un sudor que no se sentía en la piel y un temor que había huido, miré a sus ojos para descubrir que el vacío era la respuesta a la pregunta sobre mi eternidad. Despierto en las calles de la otrora gran Madrid, que han visto el paso de millares, el cabalgar de valientes, la nobleza de algunos reyes y el despotismo de los grandes nobles. Sus esquinas cuentan las historias de un pueblo llamado imperio que ostentaba jamás tener puestas de sol. Hoy en día albergan la vergüenza, el desdén, la desidia, tan gris como el asfalto que las compone, en el que aún se siente el latir de aquel bravo corazón que en el pasado evocó la unión para detener con precio de sangre la barbarie en las planicies yertas de las Navas de Tolosa, donde el atisbo de esta hispanidad, ahora sumida en tragedia, detuvo la sumisión impuesta por arrogancia, dándole la victoria al Castillo Dorado, los palos de gules y las posteriores cadenas, símbolo de esperanza.

Block quotes are a nice way to put a quote or excerpt from a source. They make it clear that it is a quote.

Of course, you can also do bold, italic, links, and all that good stuff.

Headings and Embeddings

You can have headings in posts. Just use the “Style” list in the toolbar. You can also embed different types of content. To add an image, just drag it in here or use the image selector tool in the toolbar.

For a tweet, YouTube video, Vimeo video, Spotify track, or SoundCloud embed, just paste the relevant link on a new line (don’t grab the embed code; it won’t work).

To delete a post, click on the Settings button (just to the left of Publish), and scroll down and find the delete button.

Publishing Changes

You have two publishing options:

1. Publish – this publishes your post only to the web.

2. Publish & Send – this publishes your post to the web and at the same time sends the post out by email.

Note: Once you have sent an email out, the only way to send it again is to create an entirely new post. Any edits you make to a post that has already been published will only be reflected on the web. So, there’s no need to worry about accidentally spamming your subscribers with repeat emails.

Finally, if you import posts from some other site’s archives, you can backdate them so they are published in the correct order and associated with the correct publication dates. To do so, after you have published a post, go into that post’s Settings (just to the left of the Publish button) and select the desired date.

A blinking cursor on a fresh blank page can be intimidating for even seasoned writers. Here are some tips from our Partnerships team on how to go about your first Substack post:

1. Why this, why now

Tell your readers why you are launching this space. What brought you here and what inspired you to do it now. Think of it as a mini personal manifesto.

2. What kind of community are you looking to build here

You are not just starting a newsletter when you start a Substack, you are starting a community. You are inviting people to subscribe to your thinking. What kind of space will this be?

3. Be specific

Readers love clarity. Be clear when you explain what they should expect: how often will you be posting? Can they expect certain posts on specific days? What will the free subscribers get? What does a paid subscription buy them? (You can list these benefits in bullets.)

4. Use an image and “subscribe” buttons

A picture will look nicer when you share the post on your social media (click the image icon in the editor to search for copyright-free photos), and it will give color to your archive as you build it.

5. Ignore our advice

There is no one true way to go about building a Substack. This is your playground, experiment with it. If you’re having fun, your readers will too.
